If you are looking for a simple dessert recipe then this caramel apple dump cake is what you need. This apple caramel dump cake is made with canned apple pie filling, caramel bits, yellow cake mix, and melted butter.

This dessert recipe is incredibly easy to make and tastes amazing. One of the things I like about dump cake recipes is that there are minimal dishes at clean up. You all know I'm all about less when it comes to clean up when I'm cooking or baking.

Not only is this recipe the perfect fall dessert but it can be enjoyed all year since it's made with pantry staple ingredients. I like to buy box cake mixes and canned apple pie filling when they are on sale. Which makes this recipe not only a simple dessert but a budget-friendly recipe.

How To Make This Recipe

Gotta love recipes that call for simple and straightforward ingredients. This dump cake recipe is one of those straightforward recipes.

What you will need to make this caramel apple dump cake is two cans of apple pie filling, caramel bits, a yellow cake mix, and melted butter.

Apple pie filling in a baking dish.

Preheat the oven to 350℉ and spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray. Open the two cans of apple pie filling and spread them out in the bottom of the baking dish. Make sure to cover every inch of the dish.

Next, take those caramel bits and sprinkle them all over the top of the apple pie filling. As the dessert bakes the caramel bits will melt and cover the pie filling. Caramel syrup can be used as a substitution for caramel bits.

With the caramel bits sprinkled on the apple pie filling it's time to add the topping of this dessert on. Pour the dry yellow cake mix on top of the caramel and pie filling making sure to spread it out evenly.

I like to take the back of a spoon and spread the cake mix out as evenly as I can.

The next layer to this apple caramel dump cake would be the melted butter. Pour the one cup of melted butter over the top of the cake mix. Making sure to coat every inch of the cake mix is covered with melted butter.

Tipping the baking dish at different angles will help to move the butter around so it will coat the cake mix.

Bake the caramel apple dump cake in a 350℉ oven for 30-40 minutes or until done. Check the middle of the cake for doneness with a toothpick.

Answering Questions

The first question that you might be wondering is does the caramel apple dump cake need to be refrigerated? You can leave it out at room temperature for 1-2 days or refrigerate it to prolong the leftovers for a few more days.

I normally will refrigerate mine then pop a serving into the microwave to warm. Then add a scoop of ice cream and top it with a drizzling of caramel syrup.

Another question might be is do you stir the dump cake? No there is no need to stir or mix any dump cake recipe. That is one of the joys of dump cakes no mixing required.

Does the cake mix need to be made before adding it? That is the best thing about this dessert is there is no need to make the box cake mix. You are only using the dry cake mix to coat the caramel bits and pie filling.

What is the difference between a dump cake and a cobbler? These two desserts are very similar since they are both made with fruit and topped with a crust. Cobbler crusts are normally made from a batter that is poured on top of the fruit. Whereas a dump cake crust is just dumped onto the fruit.

What goes with caramel apple dump cake? Enjoy a serving of caramel apple dump cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel syrup. If you are looking for more caramel apple recipes then you should check out our cream cheese caramel apple dip recipe.
