The words pull apart cheesy garlic bread on the top of the image. At the bottom of the image is fingers pulling from a piece from the cheesy bread recipe.

Our cheese and garlic crack bread is bursting with amazing flavors. This pull-apart cheesy bread is coated in a garlic herb compound butter. Sourdough bread is stuffed with a mixture of parmesan and mozzarella cheese. After it has been coated with a compound butter mixture, then baked to bubbly perfection.

Every time I make this bread it's a hit with the family. Not only is this crack bread recipe simple to make but it's loaded with flavor.

The compound butter melts down into the cracks of the bread. The shredded mozzarella and parmesan cheese blanket the cracks of the bread. Give each chunk of the bread flavor from the garlic butter and cheeses.

Pull apart pieces of this cheesy-garlic goodness as an appetizer or a side with your favorite Italian dinner. We love to have this with spaghetti or lasagna.

So stop by the store on your way home tonight and grab a loaf of sourdough bread. Then heat up the oven to enjoy this delicious bread recipe with dinner.

How To Make The Best Cheesy Crack Bread

In order to make the best crack bread recipe, we need to start with the key ingredient, the bread. My favorite to use is sourdough, but you could use any dense type of bread like a French Loaf.

A sourdough bread and compound butter that is on a spatula and on parchment paper.
Sourdough loaf and compound butter makes for great garlic pull-apart bread.

I cheat a bit and buy a sourdough loaf from the bakery at the grocery store. Homemade bread will also work for this recipe.

Sourdough has an airy inside while the outside brings a thick chewy crust. The soft inside of sourdough really soaks up the garlic herb butter well.

When cutting the bread loaf you will want to make sure that you don't cut all the way to the bottom of the loaf. This way the loaf will stay together.

Cutting 1-inch squares makes for great pull apart pieces to enjoy. A bread knife will be the best type of knife to use to cut into this bread. If you don't have a bread knife then a sharp knife will work. Moving on to the butter, there are a few things to consider.

Whether or not you want to use fresh herbs, dried herbs, or no herbs at all. Whether you want to use fresh garlic or garlic powder. I use our compound butter mixture whenever I make this recipe which is made with fresh herbs and garlic. I feel it brings so much more flavor to the crack bread.

Next would be to decide if you want to melt the butter or use it as a spread. I prefer to use the compound butter as a spread. As the bread heats up the butter will start to melt into all the cracks. Filling the cracks with the delicious butter mixture.

What Is The Best Cheese To Use

I totally love cheese so the more the better is my option. For this recipe, I decided to use fresh Parmesan cheese and shredded mozzarella cheese. I mixed these two together in a mixing bowl with some Italian seasoning for more flavor.

I used mozzarella because it was what was in our refrigerator plus I like the taste of it. It brings a nice smooth creamy flavor. The parmesan doesn't melt as well as the mozzarella but it adds a nice flavor.

You could change out the mozzarella cheese for Italian cheese, swiss, or for a bit of spice use Monterey Jack for a little spice. All these types of cheeses will make this bread taste wonderful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Fingers pulling a piece from the cheesy pull apart garlic crack bread.

How long to bake the for?

The bread will need to be baked for 15-20 minutes in a preheated 400℉ oven. Or until the middle of the bread is warm and all the cheese is melted.

When baking this cheese and garlic crack bread I like to cover it with foil for 10 minutes of the bake time. This will help to hold the heat in the bread and to melt the cheese.

You can leave the foil on the whole bake time. I like to remove it for the last 10 minutes so the cheese doesn't stick to the foil.

How to reheat?

Reheating the pull-apart bread can be done in either the microwave or the oven. If using the microwave just heat it up to the desired warmth. If reheating in the oven wrap the bread in foil. Place into a preheated 350℉ oven for 10-15 minutes.

How to store leftovers?

I normally will store my leftovers wrapped tightly in foil out on the countertop. If stored in the refrigerator the bread will dry out and become stale.

How long will the leftovers last?

If properly stored these leftovers can last 2-3 days out on the countertop.

This cheese and garlic crack bread is best served with just about any dish but we like having it with Chicken feta pasta or as an appetizer.
