Ingredients Needed

Here is a list of the ingredients needed and what they do to make this delicious cherry gelatin dessert.

The ingredients needed to make this easy cherry pineapple jello salad recipe.

  • cherry jello plays a dual role in this congealed salad. It adds a burst of cherry flavor and provides the salad's structural integrity.
  • unflavored gelatin serves as the backbone for the cherry jello recipe. With the combination of cherry jello, it provides structure and firmness. While allowing the flavors of the cherry jello, crushed pineapple, and canned cherry pie filling to shine.
  • boiling water helps to dissolve the gelatin while ensuring a smooth and even distribution of flavors.
  • cold water helps to dissolve the gelatin mixture allowing it to solidify. Which creates that desired wobbly-jiggly jello and refreshing texture.
  • cherry pie filling adds a burst of sweet creamy goodness to this jello fruit salad. While also contributing to the salad's texture.
  • crushed pineapple adds a tropical sweetness that makes for a refreshing contrast to the canned cherries.

How To Make

Let's see how easy this most wonderful cherry jello salad is to make. Start by dissolving the cherry jello and unflavored gelatin in a large bowl with hot water. Whisking for 2 minutes to ensure the gelatin dissolves.

The dissolved cherry and and unflavored gealtin in a bowl with crushed pienapple and cherry pie filling in it.

Mix in the cold water then add in the can of cherry pie filling and the crushed pineapple along with the pineapple juice it's packed in. Mix these ingredients together well.

Lightly spray a jello mold or bundt pan with a little bit of cooking spray. Pour the gelatin salad mixture into the prepared mold and place in the refrigerator until firm. It will take about 2-4 hours for the jello salad to set up.

Once the dessert salad is fully set allow it to sit at room temperature so it will come out of the mold. You may want to run a butter knife around teh edge of the jello to separate it from the mold.

Cover the top of the pan with a platter and flip the pan and platter over together. So the cherry pineapple salad will come out onto the platter.

Tips And Tricks

In this section, I have some tips and tricks to help you with making this recipe. The first is the proper gelatin dissolving. You will want to stir the gelatin well to prevent lumps and to achieve a smooth texture.

To help speed up the setting process you can chill the canned cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple before adding to the dissolved jello.

For added flavor and texture you can sprinkle in some walnuts, shredded coconut, or mini marshmallows on top of the gelatin before it sets. Get creative by using different fruits such as adding in fresh fruit, mandarin oranges, sliced strawberries, canned cherries, maraschino cherries, or fruit cocktail.

Another way to get creative is by experimenting with different types of jello molds or individual serving containers to create unique shapes. Silicone molds would also be easy to work with.

Prepare the salad a day in advance to allow ample setting time and enhance the flavors as the ingredients blend together. Before serving drop a dollop of cool whip, fresh mint, or additional fruit slices for an extra touch of elegance.

Serve as a delightful dessert or a sweet side dish for holiday gatherings. For the best taste and texture, serve this cherry pineapple gelatin salad well-chilled with a dollop of whipped topping.

Store any leftover gelatin salad in an airtight container or cover a serving dish that is tightly covered with plastic wrap. This gelatin salad will keep in the fridge for up to 2-3 days. Unfortunately, this recipe will not freeze.
