Ingredients Needed For Chocolate Walnut Cookies
This cookie recipe is made like most of my cookies with basic simple ingredients. However, there is one ingredient that I normally don't use in cookies.
- all purpose flour acts as a stabilizer in these cookies. The flour helps control how much the cookies ris when baked.
- Baking soda creates carbon dioxide gas bubbles. Which helps achieve that softness to the cookies.
- Baking powder helps the cookies to spread out and up when baked.
- salt adds a bit of flavor.
- Crisco is the ingredient that I normally don't use in cookies. The shortening will help make the cookies softer and crispier.
- Unsalted Butter brings in flavor as well as helps the shortening make the cookies softer. I prefer to use unsalted butter so I can control the amount of salt in my baked goods.
- Granulated Sugar brings sweetness to the cookies as well as adds to the crispiness of the baked walnut chocolate chip cookies.
- Brown Sugar also adds sweetness and helps to make the cookies moist as well as chewy.
- Large Eggs are used for the leavening and structure of the cookies.
- Vanilla Extract enhances the other ingredients.
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips are simply a must for that chocolatey sweetness of these cookies.
- Dark Chocolate Chips bring in a deeper richer chocolate flavor. These can be changed out for chocolate chunks or dark chocolate candy.
- Walnuts can be optional if you're not a fan. Try replacing them with pecans or even peanuts.

The dough for these amazing cookies can be made in either a large bowl using a hand mixer or in a bowl of a stand mixer with a paddle attachment. I like to cream the butter and Crisco together first to help incorporate the sugar better.
Once these two ingredients are combined I will add the sugar to the stand mixer bowl, mixing until light and fluffy.
The eggs I find will mix in better if they are at room temperature and I always do one egg at a time. This will allow for each egg to incorporate fully.
Once the wet ingredients are all combined I will slowly add in the dry ingredients. Making sure it's all combined before adding more of the dry ingredients in. Being careful not to over mix the cookie batter.
Fold in the chopped walnuts, semi-sweet, and dark chocolate morsels using a rubber spatula.
