Refrigerated cinnamon roll dough and a can of apple pie filling. Are all that is needed to make these 2-ingredient apple pie cups. These delicious cinnamon apple pie cups are baked to golden brown perfection. Then drizzled with the cream cheese frosting that comes in the cinnamon roll tube.

This easy recipe can be put together and baked within 30 minutes. No need for any mixing bowls or measuring spoons. All that is needed is a muffin tin, refrigerated cinnamon roll dough, a can of apple pie filling, and the oven.

Our family loves homemade cinnamon rolls but sometimes life calls for quick and easy ways of making things. And this sure is a simple recipe to make.

How To Make This 2-Ingredient Recipe

Cinnamon buns pressed into a muffin tin before its been filled with canned apple pie filling.

These are so easy to put together. Open the can of cinnamon roll dough and press each cinnamon bun into a muffin cup to form a cup shape. I ended up using two jumbo cans of cinnamon rolls to make 8 of these easy apple pie cups.

Once the cinnamon buns are pressed into the cups of the muffin pan fill them with the apple pie filling. I used the store-bought pie filling but you could make your own homemade apple pie filling to fill the cups with.

Bake in a preheated 375℉ oven for 15-18 minutes depending on your oven. My oven took 17 minutes to fully bake these delicious apple pie cups.

I allowed these to remain in the muffin tin for five minutes before removing them to a wire rack to cool some. The cans of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls come with a cream cheese frosting. When I felt the cinnamon apple pie cups were cooled enough I drizzled the frosting on top of each cup.

In order for me to get pictures without the cream cheese frosting melting I did place it in the refrigerator to allow the icing to set up some. You may find you will want to do that or allow the cups to fully cool before icing.

Variations And Questions

There are a few variations you could make to this recipe. You could make little mini apple pies by putting the cinnamon buns into the little cups of a mini muffin pan. If you make these into mini pie cups I would cut the cinnamon roll in half. Then use a rolling pin to roll out the cinnamon roll dough to fit in the mini muffin tin.

You could even replace the canned cinnamon rolls with homemade rolls or pie crust.

Change out the traditional apple pie filling for homemade apple pie filling or your favorite type of pie filling. Sprinkle on top of the drizzled cream cheese frosting a bit of cinnamon or cinnamon sugar.

Now enjoy these as they are, which they are totally fabulous on their own. But why not create an evening dessert with these? They would taste amazing fresh out of the oven as a warm dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Of course, since this is an apple recipe we can't forget a drizzle of caramel sauce on top of the cinnamon apple pie cups and ice cream.

How to store apple cups?

These are best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

How long will these cinnamon roll apple pie cups last?

Cinnamon roll apple pie cups should last up to 4 days in the refrigerator if stored properly.

Can cinnamon roll pie cups be frozen?

I have not frozen these, but I wouldn't think they would have the same texture once unthawed. They do have a slight crispiness to them so I feel they would lose that if frozen.

Tips

You all know I love sharing tips when it comes to our recipes. This first tip is when it comes to the refrigerated can of cinnamon rolls. When I was making these I pulled both of the rolls of cinnamon buns out at the same time. As I was working with the first one which did not pop when opened. The second had enough time to come to room temperature.

So when I went to open it, it made that popping noise. You know the one that makes you jump like when the Jack in the box pops up. I jumped and I might have screamed a bit. So my tip is to keep the refrigerated cinnamon rolls in the fridge until you are ready to use them.

Since I wanted the 2 ingredient apple pie cups to have a bit of a crispy crust. I didn't use cupcake liners in my muffin pan. I sprayed a little non-stick cooking spray into the muffin cups. Then used a paper towel to evenly disburse the cooking spray.

For the apple pie filling I cut the slices into chunks so they would sit better in the well of the cinnamon apple pie cups.

  3. Press one cinnamon roll into each muffin well and up the sides. This will create a cinnamon roll cup.
