A delightful fusion of sweetness, nostalgia, and pure baking joy.

Creating Cookie Monster Cinnamon Rolls

To create the mouthwatering delight of Cookie Monster Cinnamon rolls. We need a delightful array of ingredients that come together to form a symphony of flavors.

The base for these rolls starts with all-purpose flour, yeast, milk, granulated sugar, butter, salt, eggs, and blue food coloring.

A plate that has a cinnamon roll on it and a fork that has a bite of it on it.

These components form a soft, fluffy dough that serves as the canvas for our delectable creation. What sets these rolls apart and brings out the Cookie Monster twist are the unique additions. Like the playful blue color that enhances the dough. Which is sure to evoke nostalgia for everyone's favorite cookie-loving character.

Along with the brown sugar cinnamon filling a layer of crushed Oreos is added for another unique twist. Which introduces the perfect blend of sweetness and warmth to these fluffy cinnamon buns.

While cream cheese and powdered sugar create a frosting that provides a velvety smoothness that takes these rolls to the next level. Each ingredient plays a crucial role in crafting the perfect harmony of flavors and textures. Ensuring that every bite of our Cookie Monster cinnamon rolls is a delight for both kids and adults.

Making these homemade cinnamon rolls is a delightful baking adventure that will leave you craving more. To start, gather the ingredients for the soft and fluffy dough. I like to start by whisking together half of the flour amount and yeast together in the bowl of a stand mixer or large mixing bowl.

In a small saucepan heat the milk, sugar, butter, and salt together until the temperature reaches 120℉. Add the wet ingredients to the flour mixture until combined. Then add the eggs in and add in as much of the remaining flour as you can. This is the point that I add the blue food coloring in, to give the Cookie Monster rolls their color.

Onto a clean work surface kneed in the remaining flour. Place the cinnamon roll dough into a greased large bowl, and cover it with a kitchen towel to let rise. The first raise will take 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size.

Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a large rectangle shape using a rolling pin. Coat the dough evenly with the room-temperature butter. In a small bowl mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon, then spread this mixture onto the butter.

On top of the cinnamon sugar mixture sprinkle the crushed cookie crumbles. Roll the dough up to form a log then cut the cinnamon rolls into slices. Place them in a baking dish, and allow them to rise for the final time.

Bake in a preheated 375-degree oven until golden brown or the center of the cinnamon rolls are done. While the rolls are cooling on a wire rack mix together the cream cheese, butter, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar. Then top the Cookie Monster cinnamon rolls with the cream cheese frosting.

Tips And Tricks

Temperature matters when working with yeast, make sure the milk mixture is warm but not too hot. You want a lukewarm milk mixture, too hot of liquid can prevent yeast from becoming active so the dough won't rise properly.

I find that using my stand mixer with the paddle attachment gives me the best results in getting the dough mixed well. The dough hook also will work wonderfully.

When kneading the dough you want to knead until it becomes smooth and elastic. The dough should pop back up when pressed on. This will help give the rolls their fluffy texture.

Avoid over flouring when rolling out the dough, use as little as possible to prevent it from becoming too dry or tough. It's best to work on a lightly floured surface.

When filling the dough with the fillings be sure to evenly disburse, to ensure every bite is flavorful. I like to leave ¼ of an inch free of the filling to help with rolling the dough up. You will want to make sure that you roll the dough up tightly into a log and pinch the seam closed. Use a sharp knife or unflavored dental floss when cutting the cinnamon roll slices, I like to use a bread knife.

Allow the rolls to rise in a warm place. I will place the baking dishes on the stovetop as the oven is heating up. Baking time may vary a bit depending on your oven, mine takes 25 minutes to get these a golden brown.

Cream cheese frosting can be adjusted by adding more powdered sugar for a thicker icing. Or add a bit of milk for a smoother, drizzling consistency. Enjoy these Cookie Monster cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven when they are still warm and gooey. Reheat leftovers briefly in the microwave.

Serving And Enjoying

Serve these delightful treats for breakfast with coffee or as an afternoon snack with a glass of milk. The true magic of these cinnamon rolls lies in the joy of sharing them with friends and family. Gather around the table and indulge in the warm gooey delight.

Since these cinnamon buns are topped with cream cheese frosting they will need to be refrigerated. Cover with plastic wrap or store in an airtight container in the fridge for 2-3 days.
