How To Make Pumpkin Butter In The Crockpot
I love easy pumpkin recipes and this fruit spread is an easy recipe to make with a few simple ingredients. To make this pumpkin butter in the crockpot you will need canned pumpkin puree.
Make sure it's puree, not the pumpkin pie filling, that will change the taste of this recipe. You could make fresh pumpkin puree by cooking up some fresh pumpkin as we did in our recipe for Instant Pot Pumpkin Puree.
Since it's the fall season we like to use apple cider in our recipe. You could easily replace the cider with apple juice. Brown sugar will help sweeten as well as bring in a deeper color to the fruit spread. I used light brown sugar but dark brown sugar will also work. Then we can't forget the blend of warm seasonings.
What makes this recipe really easy to make is it's a dump and go type of recipe. So into the crockpot, all you have to do is add the ingredients. I do recommend stirring the ingredients together and making sure to get any of the ingredients down off the side of the slow cooker.
Stirring the ingredients together will allow the flavors to marry together as they slow cook. Making sure the ingredients are off the side of the slow cooker will prevent them from burning.
Once the pumpkin spread has finished cooking give it a stir. Then allow to cool completely before placing in an airtight container. This will store in the refrigerator for up to two weeks or in the freezer for up to 6 months. I don't recommend this fruit spread to sit out on the countertop. It needs to be refrigerated once cooled.
As this recipe slowly cooks the whole house fills with the delicious flavors of pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. I couldn't wait to enjoy this on a stack of pancakes once it was finished cooking.
Tips For Making This Fruit Spread
Don't overcook the fruit butter. This recipe only needs 4 hours on low heat or 2 hours on high to cook. Any longer and there will be a chance of it burning.
This next tip is worth repeating and that's making sure there are no extra ingredients up the sides of the crockpot. Any ingredients on the sides of the slow cooker will burn when cooking. This could also add a burned taste to the pumpkin butter.
