Double chocolate muffins are loaded with a rich chocolate flavor and are simple to make. Made with sour cream to make them a moist muffin. These rich chocolate muffins are better than any bakery-style muffins you will try.
I have been transporting our kids back and forth to school for some years now. On our way to school, we pass several fast-food restaurants.
Every so often the kids would ask if we could stop for breakfast at one of these restaurants. Not wanting to always say no to them but also not wanting to fill them up with fast food.
I decided that we would make it special and only stop for breakfast on their birthdays. So three times a year they get to get fast food breakfast at whichever restaurant the birthday person decides upon.
When they were real young Mcdonald's was their favorite, now it's our local coffee shop.
My youngest loved to get McDonald's chocolate muffins, she was very disappointed when they stopped making them. So I made it my mission to recreate those chocolate muffins the best I could. I have to say I think they are even better than the ones at McDonald's.
A Simple Breakfast Muffin Recipe
Since my kids are all about quick and easy breakfast recipes muffins are normally a big hit in our house. Not only are my To Die For Blueberry Muffins a hit in our home they are also well-shared recipes on the blog.
These double chocolate muffins are so simple and quick to make. In a large bowl add vegetable oil, sugar, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, sour cream, flour, baking cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
Just a side note on the baking cocoa, I used dark baking cocoa. You can use whichever you choose, I like the flavor of the darker baking cocoa.
Mix all the ingredients together until all combined. Then fold the chocolate chips (or do you call them chocolate morsels?) into the batter.
This is a thicker batter that will hold the chocolate chips in place. However, if you would like you could roll the morsels into a little bit of flour or baking cocoa before adding them into the batter.
That will help to hold the morsels in place even more.
How Long Do I Bake Double Chocolate Muffins For?
In my Baker's Dozen post I give a couple of tips that will be helpful in making these muffins. I'm all about easy clean-up as well so cupcake liners are my favorite to use whenever I can. I also find that using a 1-inch ice cream scoop will make the perfect size muffin.
Take a prepared muffin tin whether you use muffin liners or spray the pan with cooking spray. Fill the muffin cups up to about ¾ full. The muffins will rise up so if you overfill then you risk getting a big muffin top.
Sprinkle the tops of the muffins with extra chocolate chips. Place into a 375℉ oven for 18-20 minutes give or take. I feel this time depends on your oven, mine took about 18 minutes to bake.
These Double Chocolate Muffins turned out moist because of the milk and sour cream that is used in the recipe.
And they make for a great quick and easy breakfast whether it's on the go or just for a laid-back Saturday morning at home watching cartoons with the kids.
