Traditional Brownies
I have been making our killer fudge brownie recipe for years. And they are always a hit at any type of party. My son has even taken these delicious brownies to a church function and was meant with rave reviews.
Thinking about Easter and what kind of sweet treats we would love to have on the dessert table. I thought about the best brownies having Easter candy in them. So I took my favorite brownie recipe and added pastel m&m candies to them.
How To Make
This is an easy brownie recipe that uses basic ingredients. Unsalted butter and two types of baking chocolate are the stars of this recipe. Normally whenever I do any type of baking I will use room temperature butter but this time it's chilled batter that is used.
Since we melt the butter and chocolate together I have found that chilled butter that is cut into cubes works best. Again since we are melting the chocolate and butter together. I have also found that chopping the baking chocolate some before melting works best.
When it comes to melting the butter and chocolate together I prefer to do it in a saucepan over medium-high heat. But you can also add the butter and chocolate to a large mixing bowl and melt them in the microwave.
After the melting of the butter and chocolate together eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract are then incorporated into the buttery chocolate mixture. Then the all purpose flour is mixed in.
Now is where we add the Easter candies. I used pastel-colored m&m's but mini chocolate eggs would also work. Reserve some of the Easter candy to sprinkle on top of the brownie batter for prettier looking Easter brownies.
Pour the brownie mix into a 9x13 baking dish that has been prepared with either non-stick cooking spray or fitted with parchment paper. I feel this glass pyrex baking dish makes the best brownies. Baking time may need to be adjusted for a metal baking dish.
Bake in a preheated oven that is set at 325℉ for 40 minutes. The lower temperature will keep most of the M&M's from cracking while baking. And since it's a lower bake time it will take longer. Of course, this will depend on how hot your oven bakes.
Questions And Tips
What makes these fudgy brownies fudgier and full of flavor? We use baking chocolate not cocoa powder for that richer chocolate flavor. The fat-to-flour ratio is higher which makes them fudgier and the best brownies.
Knowing when the chewy brownies are fully cooked is also a key factor in making the best Easter brownies. The tops of the brownies will feel firm, and the sides will look set. A toothpick inserted in the middle of the dessert should come out with some moist batter that is not completely wet looking.
Allow the baked brownies to cool completely before cutting into perfect squares and removing them from the pan. If the m&m brownies are still warm when cut into they will not hold their shape.
Store these homemade brownies in an airtight container for 3-4 days at room temperature. These are the perfect treat to enjoy on Easter Sunday
This is an easy recipe to make into Easter egg brownies by replacing the easter m&m for Cadbury mini eggs. Either type of candy would be an easy Easter dessert for this time of year.
