What Is French Toast With Cinnamon
Even though it's called French it really isn't. Legion has it this recipe was created by a man named Joseph French in 1724. If this legion is true then I would like to thank Joseph for this delightful recipe.
French Toast has a way of starting the morning off on a good note. I mean you have this thick bread that is soaked in a yummy custard. Then fried to a golden crispy perfection. Pair this toast with warm maple syrup and fresh fruit for an amazing breakfast.
Growing up we live a few hours away from my grandparent's house. So when we visited we would stay the night. I can remember my grandma making the best French toast ever for breakfast.
Going off of my memory of how she did it I'm going to share it with you today.
The Best Bread To Use
You can make this recipe with many different types of bread. Like sandwich bread, Challah bread, sourdough bread, or Texas Toast. These all are great to use for this recipe. Just as long as they are thicker sliced bread.
The thicker sliced bread will absorb the custard better. To thin of bread will absorb too much of the custard making it soggy. My favorite bread to use it Texas Toast.
How To Make The Best French Toast
To start you will need to whisk the eggs in a dish that is easy to place the pieces of bread into for dipping. I like to use a pie dish for this part.
Whisking the eggs well to break up the yolks. You can use a whisk or a fork like I do, whichever you prefer.
Once I have that done I will add the milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon into the eggs and whisk these all together well.
If you have a milk intolerance then you could substitute the milk for almond milk. For more richer custard you could also use a heavy cream.
The cinnamon adds a little sweet yet spiciness to the toast. However, you can omit this if you like. Since I have a couple of people that don't like cinnamon, I don't always add it to my French Toast.
Once you have the custard mixture ready, soak the piece of bread on both sides in the custard. Just enough to get a good coating. Place the custard soaked bread onto a heated fry pan or griddle pan that was sprayed with cooking spray.
Cook on each side for 3-4 minutes or until done. The French Toast will have a nice golden color to it.
Quick and easy breakfast
This is a simple and easy breakfast to have any day of the week or for a special Sunday breakfast. Top the toast with warm maple syrup and fresh fruit for an even more amazing taste.
What I love about this simple recipe is that you can freeze it. I make sure that the toast is completely cooled before I place two pieces into a ziplock baggie.
Place it in the freezer and it will last up to 3 months. Pop the two pieces of toast into the microwave for a few seconds to reheat for a great breakfast any time.
French toast with cinnamon brings back that memory of my grandma making it for me when I was a kid. It's one of my favorite breakfast recipes.
French toast with sausage links and a nice cup of coffee makes for a great start to a relaxing Sunday morning.
