Herb butter with garlic is a compound butter. Which is just a fancy way of saying butter that has other ingredients added to it. In this case, the ingredients we added to our butter were fresh herbs and garlic.
Garlic herb butter is simple to make and only takes a few minutes to make. Once the butter is made it can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two months. There are many ways to store this butter. I like to roll the butter up in parchment paper. Then twist the ends closed. This will give me a log of butter that can be sliced and added into recipes.
If you want to use it as a spread then you may want to take it out of the refrigerator. And let it come to room temperature before using.
Since I use unsalted butter to make this herb butter it becomes very solid once it's been in the refrigerator for a bit.
Compound butter can be made with dried or fresh herbs. I have made it both with dried and fresh herbs, I do prefer fresh herbs.
Using fresh garlic really brings in a more garlic flavor. Then my normal pre-minced garlic in a jar that I use. Either way, this homemade garlic butter turns out delicious. It's easy to make either way.
Just add the herbs, garlic, and room temperature butter to a mixing bowl. Stir all the ingredients together.

Make herb butter with garlic from scratch with this easy recipe. This compound butter is made with fresh herbs and garlic that brinsg added flavor to many recipes.
Ingredients
- ½ Cup Unsalted Butter room temperature
- 2 Cloves Garlic minced
- 5 Leaves Fresh Basil finely chopped
- 1 Teaspoon Fresh Thyme finely chopped
- 2 Tablespoons Fresh Parsley finely chopped
Instructions

In a mixing bowl add the room temperature butter, minced garlic, and finely chopped herbs. Mix all ingredients together until all are combined.

Tear off a sheet of parchment paper, scoop the butter compound onto the parhcment paper.

Shape the herb butter into a log as you roll it up in the parchment paper. Twist the ends of the parchment paper to form a tight seal.

Place butter log into the refregerator for 2 hours. Serve on your favorite bread or add to steak, chicken, shrimp, and vegetables.
