Swedish meatballs are made with ground pork and ground beef that are held together with eggs and bread crumbs. The meatballs are nestled in a creamy sauce that is made from French onion and cream of mushroom soup along with half and half and brown gravy mix.

How do Homemade Swedish Meatballs that are smothered in an amazing rich cream gravy sound?

How to make Homemade Swedish Meatballs with a creamy gravy

I have been working at perfecting this recipe for Swedish meatballs for some time. The trick is having a really good meatball recipe.

And a great gravy or sauce if you will, to cover the meatballs. The gravy I make for my Swedish meatball recipe is a rich, creamy, beefy flavor gravy.

The Perfect Meatball Recipe

I'm not a fan of frozen meatballs. To me, there isn't enough sauce to cover that fake taste that I feel frozen meatballs have. I must sound like some kind of snob or something but I just prefer the taste of homemade meatballs.

A few months ago I shared here on the blog my recipe for the perfect meatballs. I love this recipe because I can make a batch and have enough for two meals.

One half for a meal like spaghetti where I sever my marinara sauce over them. And the other half I will put in a freezer container and freeze for a couple of weeks.

This is the only time I will willingly serve my family frozen meatballs.

The ones from the freezer are perfect for dinners like meatball subs or this Swedish Meatball recipe.

Homemade Meatball Recipe

For my meatball recipe, I like to use two types of ground meat; pork and beef. Ground beef on its own can tend to be dry so adding pork will make the meatballs juicer and tender.

4 smaller pictures of making meatballs

I start by adding my ground meats to a large bowl. Then I add the bread crumbs, eggs, onion, garlic, fresh parsley, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.

Don't be afraid to get your hands in there and mix the ingredients together. Sometimes I find the best tool in my kitchen to use are my hands.

When the ingredients are all mixed together I form 1 inch balls and place them into a 9x13 baking dish.

Even if I plan on only using half of this recipe I will still bake them all before I freeze any. The meatballs need to bake in a 350℉ oven for one hour.

Easy Sauce

Three pictures of steps on how to make the sauce for Swedish Meatballs

For the sauce or gravy if you will I add into a medium-size bowl. Half and half, 1 can each of French Onion Soup and Cream Of Mushroom Soup, and brown gravy seasoning.

Using a whisk to mix everything together.

One trick that I have found is that I make sure the meatballs are all cooked before I add the sauce. Once the meatballs are fully cooked I drain the fat from the baking dish.

If the fat isn't drained out it will loosen the sauce and give it a bit of a greasy look. Then I add the sauce and place them back into the oven for 15 minutes.

What to Serve with Swedish Meatballs

Are you wondering what to serve with these Swedish Meatballs? I like to serve mashed potatoes but eggs noodles would be great as well.

I like to make a little nest of mashed potatoes on my plate then spoon the two meatballs and gravy over the potatoes. Oh my goodness is that ever good!

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family and I do.

I love meatballs but have never made them from scratch, though it is something I have wanted to do. This recipe looks great. I am going to give it a try.

Thank you for stopping by! This recipe is so good, the meatballs have so much flavor because of the two types of meat used. I hope you try it.
