What Is Bone Broth

Bone broth is made from simmering animal bones and connective tissues in water that has a little bit of vinegar in it.

The vinegar helps release nutrients from the marrow within the bone, the vinegar also helps break down other tissues into the water.

Bone broth can be made using fish, beef, or chicken bones along with fresh herbs and vegetables.

Bone Broth is a great source of nutrients and adds wonderful flavor to soups and stews.

What Are The Health Benefits Of Bone Broth

An Instant Pot with three mason jars that are filled with bone broth sitting on a counter top with celery, onion and carrots in front of the jars.

Bone Broth helps to support joint health, boost your immune system, treat leaky gut, help grow stronger hair and glowing skin.

The most popular benefit of bone broth is the high content of collagen it has. Your body will absorb the collagen from bone broth and help restore cartilage. Thus making bone broth great for joint health.

Collagen is also great in helping strengthen hair and helps improve the firmness of the skin. Bone broth is full of many vitamins and minerals that can help your immune system. Having a healthy immune system can help fight off those viruses.

Which with the flu season right around the corner it's a good idea to stock up on some bone broth. Bone broth is loaded with amino acids and will help support inflammation in your digestive tract. The amino acid and gelatin content can help in soothing and healing a leaky gut.

How To Make Instant Pot Chicken Bone Broth

The inner pot of an Instant Pot that has cooked chicken bones, carrots, and broth in it.

Whenever I make a whole roasted chicken I'll save the chicken carcass to make bone broth in my Instant Pot. It's simple and sort of quick to make.

I start by adding the carcass into my inner pot of my Instant Pot. Next, I cut off the ends of two carrots and cut them in half. Add those into the pot as well.

Cleaning two celery stalks I then cut the ends off and again cut in half. You may not need to cut them, I did so the vegetables would fit into the inner pot.

I then will peel and chunk up an onion adding it in with the other vegetables. Next, I add fresh parsley that I have chopped a little to get the flavor out.

The front of an Instant Pot that says 1:20 minutes on it.

The last step is to add 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and 10 cups of water into the inner pot. Remember not to go past the fill line on your inner pot.

Next, you will set your Instant Pot to high pressure and adjust the time to 1:20 minutes. Do a natural release for at least 10 minutes.

A bowl is inside a sink with a mason jar inside the bowl. Over top the mason jar is a mesh strainer.

When the broth is done in the sink, I strained the broth into mason jars. I was able to get 3-quart jars filled. After the jars are filled and cooled store them in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.

When you use the broth there will be a fat layer, I just scrape that off before I pour it into my recipe.

How to use Bone Broth

I'm sure you are wondering how do I use it. There a lot of ways that it can be used.

Since an Instant Pot needs liquid to help build pressure, Instant Pot recipes would be a great place to start.

If a recipe calls for chicken stock or water I will replace it with bone broth. Take my recipe for Instant Pot Creamy Chicken Chili.

If I have bone broth I would replace the water and the better than bouillon with the bone broth.

Since bone broth is great for so many nutritional reasons. Some people will drink the broth warm like a cup of tea.

The next time you roast a whole chicken in the oven save the bones so you can make your very own bone broth.
