Instant Pot hard boiled eggs are easy to make using the 5-5-5 method in an Instant Pot. Get perfectly peeled eggs every time.
Hard-boiled eggs are a favorite around our house, I can't seem to keep them in the refrigerator for very long.
Doing them the old fashioned way could be challenging at times. Getting the shell peeled off perfectly was always a hassle.

I would have clumps of the egg coming off with the shell which would get me frustrated when peeling eggs.
There may have even been a few times where I just tossed the eggs away instead of fighting with them.
That was all even before getting to the yolk and to find it not cooked all the way.
Ever since I started making them in my Instant Pot I haven't had these problems. This has been the only way I make hard-boiled eggs.
Accessories Used For Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs
- Instant Pot~ I use a Duo 6 quart
- Trivet ~ the one that came with your IP or one for eggs
- Water
- Eggs
- Ice Water
- Bowl
At first, I hadn't bought many accessories for my Instant Pot but this stackable egg steamer trivet was the best thing I could have bought. I love the fact that I can fit 14 eggs or I can do 7 eggs.
This trivet fits 5, 6, and 8 quart Instant Pots and isn't very costly. Here I have a list of the Best Instant Pot Accessories. I highly recommend this egg trivet.
How To Do The 5-5-5 Method
This is how the 5-5-5 method works.
Place 1 cup of water in the inner pot of your IP (this is the recommended amount of water for a 6 quart, other sizes may need more water).
Place whatever trivet you are using in the inner pot (you can use the one that came with your IP)
Add your desired amount of eggs into the trivet.
Put the lid to your IP on, make sure your release valve is turned to sealing.
Press the high-pressure cooker button. Adjust the time to 5 minutes.
When the cooking time is done let it natural release for another 5 minutes. Natural release means that you don't open the pressure valve on the lid of your IP.
The screen of your Instant Pot will say L5 that is how you will know you have reached the 5-minute releasing time.
You will need to turn the release valve to venting to release any remaining steam out.
Once the 5 minute natural release time is over remove the lid from your IP. Remove eggs and place them into an ice water bath for another 5 minutes.
I recommend using kitchen tongs to remove the eggs from the trivet, they get very warm.
Enjoy
After the 5 minutes in the ice water bath, you may peel your eggs and enjoy.
Here is a little video I have on my Youtube channel to show you how I do the 5-5-5 method.
