Since this cookie recipe doesn't require a chill time you will be diving into these amazing cookies within minutes. Come along and let us show you our secret to getting these scrumptious treats so fluffy.
Next to my killer fudge brownie recipe my kids love cookies. Okay so maybe chocolate chip cookies rank higher with them than the brownies. I do have to say the brownies are pretty amazing though.
Since they are cookie fanatics I'm always looking to up my cookie recipe game. I knew I hit a winner when the adulting child of mine walks in and says "yes!!! M&M Cookies".
I guess it had been a while since I made these delightful candy-packed treats.
These cookies bake up fluffy, soft, chewy, and with crispy edges. These amazing treats are a must-try and are simple to make.
How To Make M&M Cookies
The first step to getting these soft baked cookies nice and fluffy is starting with room temperature butter. If the butter is melted then the cookies will turn out flat.
Whereas chilled butter will be harder to mix in with the sugars. When room temperature butter is creamed with sugar and eggs it will create lighter fluffy cookies.
Moving on to the white and brown sugars. Yup, we are talking about using both white and brown sugar in this recipe. The combination of the two sugars makes for an amazing-tasting cookie.
Using two types of sugars as well as room temperature butter is our secret to fluffy cookies.
In a mixing bowl add the room temperature butter and sugars together. Creaming the sugars and butter together will create more air in the dough making for a lighter cookie.
Once the butter and sugars are creamed together the eggs and vanilla extract are added in.
Even though my picture shows that I added both eggs into the butter-sugar mixture together. I do recommend that you add one egg at a time and completely incorporate the egg before adding the second egg.
With both eggs mixed into the butter-sugar mixture set the bowl aside.
Soft Baked Cookies
One of the best tips I can give you when baking is sifting the flour or even all dry ingredients. Sifting would also be part of our secret to getting fluffy cookies.
Head over to our article Baker's Dozen were in tip number 11 we explain why we sift. In another bowl sift the flour, baking soda, and salt together until combined.
With the dry ingredients sifted it's time to slowly add it into the wet ingredients. You can either mix all these ingredients by hand or grab a mixer.
Make sure that all the ingredients are mixed together well so the M&M's can be mixed in. Now that the dry and wet ingredients are combined it's time to add the M&M to the cookies.
Well, I also like to add semi-sweet chocolate chips as well as the M&M's into the cookie batter. Really can you have too much chocolate?
When I add the chocolate chips and M&M's I do use a rubber spatula to fold them into the batter. I also like to reserve some of the M&M's to place on the tops of the scooped cookie dough.
Using a cookie scoop will give you uniform sizes. My go-to cookie scoop size is a 2-inch scoop. I'm also all about my silicone liners when it comes to baking cookies.
The liners help protect my cookie sheets, as well as help, keep the cookies from sticking to the baking sheet. Scoop the cookie dough out onto the prepared pan then place some extra M&M's on top of the cookie dough.
When placing the cookie dough on the baking sheet I recommend placing them about 1-2 inches apart. This will give the cookies enough room to bake up separately.
Place the cookie sheets into a preheated 375℉ oven for 15 minutes or until done. Baking time could vary depending on the size of the cookies and oven.
Tips For Making M&M Cookies
Now it's time for some of the tips that I use for making the best M&M Cookies.
- Room temperature butter works best.
- Using both white and brown sugar create the best tasting cookies.
- Use fresh soft brown sugar. The moisture from the brown sugar will help to make the cookies chewy.
- Sifting the flour and dry ingredients will help make the cookies fluffy.
- Cookie scoops are our best friend when it comes to uniformed cookie shapes.
- Cookie liners are great so your cookies don't stick to the baking sheet.
- Preheating the oven will help make sure the cookies bake up correctly.
- Don't over-bake. You are looking for a golden brown color for the cookie with slightly crispy edges.
We hope you enjoy these easy M&M cookies as much as we do.
