Pistachio Fluff fruit salad is a simple dessert recipe that's made with 5 ingredients. Going by many names like Watergate Salad, green fluff, pistachio salad, and pistachio ambrosia salad.

This pistachio dessert is the perfect comfort food recipe. Bring this salad along to any holiday gatherings or potlucks.

In this article, we will answer some questions you may have regarding this recipe. We share how long green fluff will last stored in the refrigerator.

As well as ways to change the salad to fit your taste.

What Is Pistachio Full Fruit Salad

If you have never had this salad, you may be wondering. What is pistachio fluff? Created by Kraft Foods in the 1970s and was first called Pistachio Pineapple Delight.

As I was reading the history of pistachio pineapple delight. I learned that it's believed that a Chicago editor changed the name.

From pistachio pineapple delight to Watergate salad. Being called watergate salad definitely showcases what was going on in the early 1070s.

The ingredients that is needed to make this ambrosia salad.

Pistachio ambrosia salad is an easy dessert recipe. Made with cool whip, instant pistachio pudding mix, crushed pineapple, chopped pecans, and mini marshmallows.

Whip this simple recipe up in minutes with these few ingredients.

How To Make Fruit Salad Fluff

Cool whip and a pudding mix in a large bowl.

Green fluff reminds me of my recipe for strawberry jello fruit salad. Green fluff is made with a pudding mix, however, strawberry jello fruit salad is made with a jello mix. Seriously though this recipe is simple to make and just as delicious to eat.

First, start with thawed out cool whip topping. Add that into a large bowl along with the instant pistachio pudding mix.

Mix these two ingredients together then place into the refrigerator for 5 minutes. This will help the pudding mix set up some.

A bowl filled with pistachio pudding that is mixed with cool whip. On top of that is crushed pineapple, chopped pecans, and mini marshmallows.

After the 5 minutes of chill time. Add the chopped pecans, mini marshmallows, and crushed pineapple. Add the whole can of crushed pineapple juices as well.

That's the reason for letting the cool whip pudding mixture set up. The juice from the pineapple will help to loosen the cool whip mixture some.

Combine all the ingredients together then cover and place into the refrigerator. Allowing the salad to set up for 4 hours or overnight. Then serve with a maraschino cherry on top and enjoy.

Answering Questions You May Have

Pistachio fluff in a bowl and some on a plate with a spoon.

Let's answer some of those questions you may have about this easy dessert recipe.

Do you use crushed pineapple that is in heavy syrup or juice? I say go for the juice, the juice will add more pineapple flavor to the dessert.

How long will this salad last stored in the refrigerator? Typically this green fluff should last for 2-3 days covered in the refrigerator. After that, the cool whip will start to loosen and the salad will come runny.

I don't like marshmallows do I have to use them? Nope, you can leave them out if you would like. I personally like the texture marshmallows bring to this recipe. Scaling back on the amount of marshmallows used is also an option.

Does pistachio pudding have nuts? Pistachio pudding is made from pistachio nuts, giving its green color. It may also have chunks of almonds in the mix.

So if you or a family member are allergic to nuts. This recipe may not be for you.

Can I add maraschino cherries into the fluff? Of course, if you like maraschino cherries by all means add them into the fluff.
