Ingredients Needed

The ingredients needed to make honey butter that is whipped.

Here is the list of simple ingredients that are needed to make this homemade whipped honey butter recipe. Along with what each ingredient does for the overall honey butter spread.

  • unsalted butter is the foundation of this sweet spread. While also adding a creamy and smooth consistency that is rich in taste. It also acts as a binding agent to the honey in the whipping process. I prefer to use unsalted butter to control the amount of salt that is in the whipped delight. You can also use regular butter if you prefer.
  • honey is just as important to this honey butter recipe as the butter is. Honey adds sweetness and unique flavor to the mix. It also attracts and retains moisture which helps maintain a smooth and creamy consistency in whipped honey butter.
  • milk contributes to the texture and consistency of the whipped butter. It helps to make the whipped butter smoother which makes it more spreadable. It also adds to the creaminess of the butter spread.
  • vanilla extract serves as a flavor enhancer and helps to balance the sweetness of the honey.

How To Make

A bowl that has whipped butter, vanilla extract, honey, and milk in it.

To start making this creamy butter mixture add the stick of butter that is at room temperature into a large mixing bowl. You can use a stand mixer that is fitted with the whisk attachment or a hand mixer. We are going to whip the butter until it's light and fluffy.

Next beat in the honey, milk, and vanilla extract until combined. More milk can be added in to achieve the desired consistency you are after. If you want to add any more ingredients in like kosher salt, sea salt, orange zest, or cinnamon to make it a honey cinnamon butter. This would be when to add those extra ingredients.

Storage Tips

Now let's talk about storage for this whipped honey butter spread. Once the butter is made you can use it right away and store any leftover honey butter in an airtight container.

Since we added milk to this compound butter mixture it needs to be stored in the refrigerator. This will help prevent potential spoilage. You can place it in a small bowl covered with plastic wrap, but be careful what is stored next to it. The butter can pick up unwanted flavors from other foods. It will last in the fridge for 2-4 weeks if properly stored.

Room temperature butter will spread more easily, so bring the cold butter out ahead of time needed.
