This classic whiskey sour cocktail is made with few ingredients, most you probably have on hand. Made with your favorite whiskey or bourbon, lemon juice, and simple syrup.

Garnish with an orange wheel and maraschino cherry and enjoy.

This week we are going to change it up a bit and give you a look at a cocktail recipe through the eyes of my husband Steve.

Whiskey Sour cocktails have become a drink that he likes to enjoy from time to time.

Best Whiskey Sour Cocktail

Sticking to the classics I've become quite fond of the Whiskey Sour. This classic recipe predates the civil war. It is a simple drink from the sour class of mixed drinks much like our Classic Margarita recipe.

The sour class of mixed drinks is one of your basic mixes that highlight the alcohol that is being mixed, generally two parts of alcohol, one part sour, and one part sweet.

Here the whiskey of your choice; which there are so many to choose from will stand out.

I have tried several brands of Whiskey and Bourbon and have found my favorites. Buffalo Trace is one that I have been enjoying lately.

If you already have a favorite Whiskey or Bourbon this is a perfect way to mix it and add another level of flavor.

Sour Mix

I actually stumbled upon the Whiskey Sour by accident. I had purchased some flavored whiskey from one of my favorite brands and tried to drink it straight on the rocks.

Finding the flavoring a little overpowering and a little on the sweet side. On a whim, I decided to add some lime juice to balance out the sweet.

Later as I expand my mixology knowledge I found out that what I had concocted was close to a whiskey sour.

As with the other classic drinks I've experimented with, and finding it no different with the Whiskey Sour. Fresh makes a difference when it comes to lemon juice.

If I don't have fresh lemons or limes in the house I've been known to get by with concentrated bottle juice.

The bottle of concentrated juice will work in a pinch. But I will back off the amount by ¼ of an ounce just because the flavor is that much more intense.

Do a little experiment the next time you have both bottled and fresh lemon juice in your home. Taste test them side by side, just a little sip of each one, and note the difference.

I strayed away from the typical 2-1-1 mix for a sour drink. Backing down on my sweet and sour by ¼ ounce. By doing this I found that a full ounce overpowered the flavor of the whiskey.

The beauty of any recipe is the flexibility to adjust to your personal preferences.

How To Make A Classic Whiskey Sour

Experiment with the different types of whiskey or bourbon to find your favorite brand. Since you are mixing the whiskey with citrus is doesn't have to be a "top shelf" brand. Just one you will enjoy sipping on.

As I mentioned a whiskey that I have been enjoying lately is Buffalo Trace. It's an easy-drinking whiskey that is perfect for sipping.

Even if you think you may not be a whiskey person, give this classic Whiskey Sour cocktail a try. There is something appealing about a cold whiskey sour cocktail.

I find that I like to enjoy this cocktail when Jen and I are watching a western show. There is something about watching these shows that makes me want to sip on a glass of whiskey.

Fill a shaker ¾ full of ice, add the whiskey of your choice, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake well. at least fifteen seconds.

Strain into a short rocks glass or old-fashioned glass, that is filled halfway with ice. Garnish with an orange and maraschino cherry. Sit back and enjoy this Whiskey Sour Cocktail.

This week we are answering the question" what's there to drink" ~ Steve
