Instant Pot Apple Cake

This apple dump cake recipe is simple and fast to make with few ingredients in the Instant Pot. This is a recipe that doesn't take much effort to make and cooks up fast for a quick dessert recipe. A yellow cake mix is used with a hint of nutmeg, layered with apple pie filling, then layered with cinnamon. Sever this with ice cream, a drizzle of caramel, and sprinkle of pecans for a complete dessert recipe.

  • 1 Box Yellow Cake Mix
  • 1 Cup Water for cake mix
  • 3 Large Eggs for cake mix
  • 1/3 Cup Oil for cake mix
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg for cake mix
  • 1 Can Apple Pie Filling
  • 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
  • Cooking Spray to spray the baking dish
  • 1 Cup Water for pressure cooker


  1. In a large bowl add the yellow cake mix, water, eggs, oil, and ground nutmeg. Mix until all combined.

  2. Spray a baking dish with cooking spray. (I used a 7- inch dish that was 3-inches deep)

  3. Pour half off the cake batter into the baking dish, top the batter with half of the can of apple pie filling.

  4. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon of the cinnamon on top of the apple pie filling. Add another layer of cake batter, then another of apple pie filling, and sprinkle with remaining cinnamon.

  5. Add 1 cup of water to the inner pot of your Instant Pot. Add the needed amount of water for your size of Instant Pot. Cover baking dish with foil place on a sling or trivet and place it into the inner pot.

  6. Place the lid on, making sure the release valve is set to sealing. Press high pressure button, adjust the cooking time to 60 minutes.

  7. Once cooking time is finished do a natural release for 10 minutes. Sever with your favorite ice cream and enjoy.

Recipe Notes

I used a 6-quart Instant Pot, the amount of water may be different. Add the needed amount of water for your size of Instant Pot.
