About This Recipe
Here at My Creative Manner, we are all about quick and simple recipes. Even though it's a casserole this recipe for tater tot casserole with cream of mushroom soup is quick and simple to make. Did I mention it tastes amazing?
One of the reasons I love this casserole recipe so much is it is simple to make. And it only uses a handful of ingredients that I normally have stocked in my pantry.
When life gets busy this recipe as well as my Instant Pot Tuna Noodle Casserole recipe are my go-to recipes. Tater tot casserole only takes 10 minutes to prepare and another 40 minutes to bake up for a simple dinner idea.
To make weeknights even easier this casserole recipe is perfect for freezer prepping. Simply make the recipe up in a freezer-safe dish, I would recommend using a foil pan. Cover with a layer of plastic wrap and then with foil. Store in the freezer for up to 3 months. When you are ready to use it take the foil and plastic wrap off. Adding a few extra minutes onto this recipe's bake time.
Don't forget to label the dish if you are freezing it. That way you know what's in the pan.
How To Make This Recipe
This casserole is simple to make, let's start by browning up ground beef in a frying pan. I'm a big onion fan and love adding some into my ground beef as it cooks.
As the ground beef starts to brown I like to season it with black pepper, seasoning salt, and garlic powder. These seasonings are my preference you can use whatever seasonings you like to use with ground beef.
Once the ground beef is fully cooked drain any grease off that there maybe. I find it handy to keep a can under my kitchen sink to eliminate grease into. Please don't pour grease down your sink drain, that could cause problems with your drains.
In a mixing bowl combined the browned ground beef, canned corn, and cream of mushroom soup. Mix these ingredients together until all are combined. If you don't like corn you could substitute it for green beans.
Using a 9x13 baking pan spray it with cooking spray. Pour the mixed ingredients into the prepared pan. Spread the ingredients out evenly into the baking pan.
Topping the ground beef ingredients with cheddar cheese. I used two cups of shredded cheddar cheese, you can cut that amount back if you like. I've found that one cup of cheese wasn't enough cheesy goodness for our family.
You could also add the cheese on top of the tater tots if you like instead of on top of the meat mixture. We like how the tater tots get crispy as they bake. With a layer of cheese on top of the tater tots, they won't be crispy.
With the cheese spread out on the ground beef ingredients layer the tater tots on top in rows. Season the tater tots with a little bit of salt and you are ready to bake.
How Long To Bake For
Place the prepared tater tot casserole with cream of mushroom soup into a preheated 350℉ oven and bake for 40 minutes or until tater tots are golden brown.
It may be tempting to bake at a higher temperature. But baking at 350℉ insures that the tater tot casserole cooks completely. Giving you melty cheese that coats the creamy ground beef mixture. Allowing the tater tots to become golden crispy brown.
Serve with a side salad for a complete dinner idea and enjoy.
