Bahama Mama Recipe
Sometimes when hubby and I go out for dinner I like to have a drink with dinner. I think the first time I ever had a Bahama Mama drink was at Red Lobster, boy did I fall in love with this cocktail.
This has become my go-to drink if it’s on the drink menu ever since.
The mix of the three types of rum with the orange and pineapple juices makes it a little of a sweeter drink.
This past summer I asked hubby to help me recreate my favorite drink. After searching his bartenders Bible and a little searching on the internet we came up with the perfect combination that I liked.
Just the right amount of rum blended with the right amount of sweetness from the juices.
It is my absolute pleasure to share our version of this delicious drink recipe with you all.
The sweetness of the pineapple and orange juice paired with the spices from Captain Morgan, the sweet coconut flavor from Malibu, and the traditional rum flavor from Bacardi.
Make for a tropical oasis in a cocktail glass to be enjoyed on warm summer nights or any time of the year.
I can almost envision myself sitting on a deck with one of these in my hand. The warm sunlight gleaming on my face, while listening to the waves of the ocean crashing to the shore.
Ingredients Needed
The ingredients that you will need to make a Bahama Mama at home are.
- Orange Juice
- Pineapple Juice
- Malibu Rum
- Bacardi Rum
- Spiced Rum (we used Captian Morgan)
- Grenadine
- crushed ice
In a 12 ounce glass, we added a 3/4 cup of crushed ice. If you don’t like that much ice you can cut back some. I find that I prefer this drink to be on the cooler side. So we used more ice than I normally like in my cocktails.
Next, we added 4 ounces of orange juice. I only buy pulp-free orange juice and think it’s best for this cocktail.
I think the pulp-free orange juice gives the cocktail a smoother finished look.
Along with the orange juice, we added 2 ounces of pineapple juice. I was able to find the small serving size cans that are 6 ounces each, much easier than a big can of it.
Now it’s time for the booze. We added 1 ounce each of Malibu Rum, Captain Morgan, and Bacardi Rum to the juices.
You can really taste the coconut from the Malibu rum as well as the spiciness that Captain Morgan adds. The perfect combination to go with the Bacardi.
Stir this all together.
Once those ingredients are mixed together we added 1/2 tablespoon of Grenadine. This just adds a little more sweetness to the drink along with a splash of red color.
This recipe only makes 1 drink, you may want to double the recipe to enjoy with a friend.
In Conclusion
Another of my favorites drinks to have is a Frozen Mudslide. It’s like a dessert and drinks all in one glass. If you love chocolate and the flavor of coffee than this is a must-try a cocktail.
However, if you are looking for another cocktail recipe that uses orange juice you may want to try our Mimosa cocktail. This cocktail recipe complements any brunch recipe or celebrates the Bride to be.
Now sit back and enjoy your tropical cocktail ~ Jenny
