Our Bahama Mama is made with Malibu rum for that tropical flavor. Along with the flavors of the pineapple and orange juice that are combined with the spiced rum and traditional Rum.

A great drink to sip on while you're hanging around the pool or relaxing on the back deck this summer. Another one of our summertime cocktail recipes you may enjoy is our Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri or Mai Tai. It's a nice refreshing drink that is made with rum just like this Bahama Mama Cocktail.
How To Make A Bahama Mama Cocktail
Sometimes when hubby and I go out for dinner I like to have a drink with dinner. I think the first time I ever had a Bahama Mama cocktail was at Red Lobster, boy did I fall in love with this tropical cocktail.
This fruity cocktail has become my go-to drink if it's been on the drink menu ever since. The mix of the three types of rum with the orange and pineapple juices makes it a little bit of a sweet drink. Which a fruity rum drink is my favorite type of adult drink.
This past summer I asked my hubby to help me recreate my favorite fruit rum drink. After searching his bartender's Bible and a little searching on the internet we came up with the perfect combination that I liked.
Just the right amount of rum blended with the right amount of sweetness from the juices. It is my absolute pleasure to share our version of this delicious drink recipe with you all.
The sweetness of the pineapple and orange juice paired with the spices from Captain Morgan, the sweet coconut flavor from Malibu, and the traditional rum flavor from Bacardi. This cocktail makes for a tropical oasis in a glass to be enjoyed on warm summer nights or any time of the year.
I can almost envision myself sitting on a beach with my feet in warm sand on a tropical vacation with one of these in my hand. The warm sunlight gleamed on my face while I listened to the waves of the ocean crashing to the shore.
Ingredients Needed
The basic ingredients to make this Bahama Mama drink recipe are simple here is what you will need to make a Bahama Mama at home are.
- Orange Juice
- Pineapple Juice
- Malibu Rum or coconut liqueur
- Bacardi Rum or light rum of choice
- Spiced Rum or dark rum (we used Captian Morgan)
- Grenadine syrup
- crushed ice cubes
Optional garnishes can vary from a pineapple slice, maraschino cherry, or orange wedge.
In a hurricane glass or highball glass we added a ¾ cup of crushed ice. If you don't like that much ice you can cut back some. I find that I prefer this drink to be on the cooler side. So we used more ice than I normally like in adult drinks. You can use more or less depending on your preference.
Next, we added 4 ounces of orange juice. I only buy pulp-free orange juice and think it's best for this cocktail. I think the pulp-free orange juice gives the cocktail a smoother finished look.
Along with the orange juice, we added 2 ounces of pineapple juice. I was able to find the small serving-size cans that are 6 ounces each, which is much easier than a big can of it.
Now it's time for the booze for this rum drink we will be using three types of rum. We added 1 ounce each of Malibu Rum, Captain Morgan, and Bacardi Rum to the juices.
You can really taste the coconut from the Malibu coconut rum as well as the spiciness that Captain Morgan adds. The perfect combination to go with the white rum.
Stir this all together or you can shake it in a cocktail shaker. Once those ingredients were mixed together we added ½ tablespoon of Grenadine to float to the bottom of the glass. This just adds a little more sweetness to the drink along with a splash of red color.
Garnish with a pineapple wedge and marchino cherry or even add on an orange slice. This Bahama Mama Cocktail recipe only makes one drink, you may want to double the recipe to enjoy with a friend.
In Conclusion
Besides tropical drinks another of my favorite drinks to enjoy is a Frozen Mudslide. It's like a dessert and drink all in one glass. If you love chocolate and a splash of coffee liqueur flavor then this is a must-try cocktail.
However, if you are looking for another cocktail recipe that uses orange juice you may want to try our Mimosa cocktail or Tequila sunrise. If you like coconut flavored rum then this Bahama Mama is the perfect cocktail for you.
