Don't you just love Thanksgiving time and decorating for this thankful time of year?
It's a time for family and friends to get together and gather around the table, sharing stories and making memories. This year our family will be hosting Thanksgiving dinner with our neighbors.
Each year I love to decorate the center of our table for Thanksgiving by making a beautiful centerpiece.
With it being Fall and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, I thought I would show you how I put together my table centerpiece.
Knowing how big my centerpiece was going to be, I knew I would want to protect the table surface. I hunted for the perfect table runner, you know how it is you have something in mind but can't seem to find it.
That's how it was for me trying to find a fall table runner. Either they were very busy looking or way more than I wanted to spend on one.
So I ended up making my own, it's nothing fancy but for someone that is self-taught in sewing, it's not bad.
Wood Carver
I started my centerpiece because of this wood candle holder. At our old house, we lived in the woods. You can imagine how beautiful it was in the fall, all the colors from the changing leaves.
Anyway, we had this one tree that was dead and had a 6 foot crack in it. Being a safety concern we decided that it needed to come down.
As my husband cut the tree up the kids and I would stack the pieces in a pile.
My youngest grew tired of this fast, so she sat down with this piece of wood. She peeled every piece of bark off this piece with her little hands.
A few days later she asked her dad to help her make a candle holder with it. She picked out the candles, he drilled the holes, and together they sanded and shellac the piece.
Still, to this day, she is very proud of herself for what she created with her dad. I think they created a beautiful piece as well as a beautiful memory.
Fall decorations
Having the candle holder in the center I wanted to make sure I knew where to end my centerpiece.
Last year when all the fall stuff went on clearance at Hobby Lobby, I bought these floral picks. These would be the endings of my centerpiece.
I love to decorate with pumpkins when the grocery store starts selling them I can't resist buying these cute little pumpkins.
I bought three of each of the pumpkins, one for each of the kids. Then the pumpkins are placed by where each of the kids sits.
I also like to add figures that remind me of each of our kids, this cute little bird reminds me of my youngest. She can be a little shy at times.
Whereas this little owl reminds me of my middle child, she loves owls. Yes, she is a huge Harry Potter fan and her love for owls came from Hedwig.
I found these cute little figures at The Dollar Tree, they always have some really cute figures at Fall and Halloween time.
Since I have my center and end pieces I need to add what I call my fillers. I start placing fall leaves that I also picked up at the dollar store around in the open areas.
Add some silk flowers and some acorn picks in places to add more filler.
Around the candle holder, I have pieces of swag that I cut to fit around it.
Once I have all the leaves and silk flowers where I want them, I'll add little things like this ceramic pumpkin.
It's fun to hear when the kids discover something "hiding".
I believe my table is ready for Thanksgiving, and the guest will be gathering around it.
Many Blessing for a wonderful Thanksgiving~ Jenny
