Strawberry Jello Fruit Salad Recipe is made with cool whip, strawberry jello, mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, and maraschino cherries. This salad can either be a dessert or a side dish.
This recipe takes me back to my childhood for sure and brings back great memories of my grandma. She always served this at holiday gatherings.
I can remember having fruit salad fluff in many different ways. Without the jello and with strawberries and applies added into it.
I wanted to make it with what I had on hand in my pantry so here is how I did it.
Cool Whip Salad
Not only did the ingredients change but the name of this salad was changed many times.
I remember it being called fruit salad, jello fruit salad, jello fluff, ambrosia salad, and of course strawberry jello fruit salad.
The base of this recipe always started with cool whip. Whether you make the cool whip from scratch or do a little cheat like I did and use store-bought cool whip.
If using store-bought just make sure to have it thawed out.
I made sure that I put my cool whip in a cold bowl so it wouldn’t get runny as I was adding all the ingredients.
I placed my bowl in the freezer for about 10 minutes while I prepped all my other ingredients.
Grandma starting putting jello in it because one of the grandkids liked it best that way.
And you know grandmas like to please their grandkids.
When you add the jello to the cool whip make sure to mix the jello really well to dissolve the jello into the cool whip.
I used strawberry jello but you could use whatever flavor you have on hand.
To make this strawberry cool whip a fruit salad you need to add fruit. Fruit in the refrigerator was running low so I grab out of my pantry.
I added a can of fruit cocktail and mandarin oranges that I drained the juices off of. I was also eyeing up crushed pineapple but opted not to this time.
Just about everyone in my house loves maraschino cherries so I added those into the salad. If I had applies I would have added those as well.
When adding everything into the strawberry cool whip I folded the fruits into the cool whip. Being careful not to over mix so the cool whip wouldn’t break down.
Once I had everything mixed together I placed the fluff salad into the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes to set up a little.
We had this as a snack but this simple recipe can be served as a dessert or as a side dish.
Take this delicious Strawberry Jello Fruit Salad Recipe with you to your next family gathering it’s sure to be a hit.
