Strawberry Jello Salad words in a box with the recipe of strawberry jello salad in a large and small bowl.

Strawberry Jello Fruit Salad Recipe is made with cool whip, strawberry jello mix, mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, and maraschino cherries. This salad can either be an appetizer, dessert, or a side dish recipe.

This strawberry fluff recipe takes me back to my childhood for sure and brings back great memories of my grandma. It seems like there was never a Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter dinner that she didn't serve this jello salad.

I can remember having fruit salad fluff in many different ways. Without the jello so it was just plain whipped topping. Also with strawberries, apples, and nuts added into it.

Sometimes she even added canned pineapple into this strawberry jello fruit salad. I think that is why I enjoy this recipe is because it can be easily changed to our liking.

You can use either frozen whipped topping or make your own homemade whipped topping. Then mix in the jello and the fruit of your choice for a delicious jello salad recipe.

Another way to change up this easy jello dessert is with the jello itself. Not a fan of strawberry jello then you can use a blackberry or your favorite jello flavor.

Some other great classic dessert salad recipes that would be great for the holidays are my recipes for raspberry cranberry jello salad and pistachio fluff.

Cool Whip Salad

Not only did the ingredients change but the name of this strawberry jello fruit salad changed many times.

I remember it being called fruit salad, jello fruit salad, jello fluff, ambrosia salad, and of course strawberry jello fruit salad. I can also remember my grandma whipping her own whipped topping from heavy whipping cream.

So if you are not a fan of store-bought whipped topping then that could be an option for you. Both ways this recipe tastes delicious, using store bought is a quick way to make jello fruit salad.

I placed my bowl in the freezer for about 10 minutes while I prepped all my other ingredients.

The base of this recipe always started with cool whip. Whether you make the cool whip from scratch or do a little cheat like I did and use store-bought cool whip. If using store-bought just make sure to have it thawed out.

Adding strawberry jello to cool whip.

I made sure that I put my cool whip in a cold bowl so it wouldn't get runny as I was adding all the ingredients.

Grandma started putting jello in it because one of the grandkids liked it best that way. And you know grandmas like to please their grandkids.

When you add the jello to the cool whip make sure to mix the jello really well to dissolve the jello into the cool whip. I used strawberry jello but you could use whatever flavor you have on hand.

Fruit Salad

To make this strawberry cool whip a fruit salad you need to add fruit. The fruit in the refrigerator was running low so I grab out of my pantry.

I added a can of fruit cocktail and mandarin oranges that I drained the juices off of. I was also eyeing up crushed pineapple but opted not to this time.

Just about everyone in my house loves maraschino cherries so I added those into the salad. If I had apples I would have added those as well.

What is great about this salad is you can add whatever kind of fruit to the jello you like. Mix in fresh fruits like apples, peaches, oranges, raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries.

To make this a more traditional ambrosia salad mix in some mini marshmallows along with the canned fruit and whipped cream.

When adding everything into the strawberry cool whip I folded the fruits into the cool whip. Be careful not to over mix so the cool whip wouldn't break down.

Once I had everything mixed together I placed the fluff salad into the refrigerator for at least 10 minutes to set up a little.

We had this as a snack but this simple recipe can be served as a dessert or as a side dish.

Take this delicious Strawberry Jello Fruit Salad Recipe with you to your next family gathering it's sure to be a hit.

Hi your recipe looks delicious and different from what I have had in the past. Do you think this would be good with coconut and walnuts mixed in?

    hello,
Is this a dish that can be created and cooled overnight to serve the next day or should it be created the day of right before serving?
