The combination of tequila, apple cider, triple sec, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice creates a harmonious balance that's both sweet and a bit tart.

Refreshing Cocktail With A Crisp Apple Twist

One of my favorite cocktails to enjoy from time to time is the classic margarita, I love being able to put a seasonal twist on it as well. So with the fall season approaching I got thinking about apples and margaritas and created this apple cider margarita.

I wanted the crisp taste of apples but didn't want it overpowering. I did try apple juice and that didn't bring the flavor I wanted for this fall margarita. Apple cider adds the right amount of apple flavors that pairs nicely with blanco tequila.

Mixed together with the citrus taste you get from triple sec and the lime flavor you get from freshly squeezed limes. You end up with a refreshing autumn-inspired cocktail recipe.

Not only is this apple cider margarita recipe perfect for any occasion this fall season. But you can enjoy it all year long since most stores do carry apple cider all year long now.

Ingredients

The ingredients needed to make a apple cider margarita at home.

In this section, we are going to talk about the ingredients and tools needed to make this delicious apple cider margarita.

  • apple cider is what gives the margarita that subtle taste. You can use apple juice if you like, I found the juice was sweeter than I liked.
  • white tequila is the base alcohol in this cocktail recipe. I have found Blanco tequila is the perfect choice for making margaritas with but you could use gold tequila as well. It will slightly change the overall flavor of the margarita.
  • triple sec or orange liqueur adds a bit of citrus flavor.
  • simple syrup helps to sweeten the margarita up a bit. You could use agave syrup in replacement of the simple syrup.
  • fresh lime juice is what really makes a margarita in my option.
  • ice to help chill the cocktail down.
  • coarse salt to coat the rim of the margarita or rocks class, this is optional.
  • ground cinnamon is optional but adds to the effectiveness of this drink. I mix the cinnamon in with the course salt.
  • lime wedge or apple slices to garnish with, and is also optional.

These are the tools that are needed to make this cocktail recipe. If you enjoy cocktails at home you most likely have these tools already in your home bar.

Answering Questions

In this section, we will answer the common questions about this apple cider margarita cocktail.

Can apple liqueur be used in replacement of the apple cider?

You could use apple pucker if you want. I haven't tried it but I would suggest using only 1-2 ounces versus the 3 ounces we use in the recipe card for apple cider.

What are some popular garnishes for apple margaritas?

A cinnamon sugar rim or coarse salt is one way. Caramel apple slices, apple slices, lime wedges, or cinnamon sticks are also a good choice.

What foods pair well with an apple margarita?

Tacos, grilled pork, apple and walnut salad, shrimp ceviche, guacamole and chips, or a cheese platter.

Can you make a non-alcoholic apple margarita?

Yes you can, simply mix together the apple cider, lime juice, simple syrup, and you can add a splash of orange juice to it.

What type of tequila works best for margaritas?

The best choice for tequila would be Blanco or reposado tequila. Reposado tequila is aged for two months in oak barrels where as Blanco isn't.
