This 3 ingredient blueberry dump cake is one of those easy dessert recipes that can be made with pantry staples.

Today I'm going to show you how to take a simple cake mix and pie filling and turn it into a blueberry cake. We will also talk about what the difference is between a cobbler and a dump cake.

Ingredients For Blueberry Dump Cake

The 3 ingredients that is needed to make a blueberry dump cake..

I often find myself standing in the pantry trying to put together an easy meal or even an easy dessert recipe. Whenever cake mixes are on sale at the store I tend to stock up.

This leads me to look for more ways to use cake mixes in recipes. Our pumpkin muffin recipe is one of my favorites ways to use a cake mix.

On one of my pantry quests, I was looking for a simple dessert recipe that didn't use many ingredients.

Seeing blueberry pie filling and knowing I had a stack of cake mixes. Got me thinking of a creative way to use this in a dessert recipe.

Knowing that a yellow cake mix would make for a great crust on top of the blueberry filling I decided a dump cake was the way to go.

Dump cakes can be made from a variety of cake mixes and pie fillings. Typically made with melted butter or cold butter. I went with the melted butter route.

Difference Between Dump Cake And Cobbler

Let's talk about the difference between a dump cake and a cobbler.

A dump cake is a cross between a cobbler and a cake. That's normally made from store-bought cake mixes.

The mix is literally dumped on top of a fruit contributing to its name dump cake. This blueberry dump cake recipe is a great beginner's recipe for new bakers.

A cobbler is a fruit-based dessert recipe that has a biscuit-like crust. That has been dropped on top of the fruit, giving a cobbled look to it.

How To Make A Dump Cake

Pie filling in a baking dish.

Like I mentioned earlier I'm using blueberry pie filling for my dump cake. However, you can use fresh or frozen blueberries or even another type of pie filling.

The cook time may vary if using fresh or frozen blueberries.

In a 9x13 baking dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. I emptied out the pie filling. Making sure that the filling covered the bottom of the baking dish.

On top of the pie filling, I emptied out a yellow cake mix. Using the back of a spoon to even the cake mix out as much as possible.

There is no need to stir the cake mix into the pie filling. The pie filling along with the melted butter helps to fully cook the cake mix.

Melted butter on a cake mix.

With the cake mix spread as evenly as possible, I poured the melted butter over the top of the cake mix. This part I have found can be kind of tricky.

After pouring the butter on, I took a spoon to collect from the pools of butter. Which I then pour onto the spots of unbuttered cake mix.

I also moved the baking dish around a little to help coat the cake mix with the butter.

As mentioned before dump cakes can be made with cold butter. So an alternative for the melted butter would be. To cover the whole cake mix with slices of cold butter.

Place the dump cake recipe into a preheated 350℉ oven for 50-60 minutes. Or until the top of the dump cake looks golden brown.

Easy Dessert

The butter-coated cake mix turns into a crisp yet tender crust that covers the delicious blueberries.

This easy dessert recipe for a 3 ingredient blueberry dump cake goes perfect with ice cream. Or even a dollop of whipped topping.

I like to serve it when it's still slightly warm enough to melt the ice cream. Store covered in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
