Ice Cream Sundae Bar

April 16, 2021 by Jennifer Leave a Comment

Dessert charcuterie Board that is loaded with ice cream toppings.

Create an ice cream sundae bar for your next birthday celebration. This simple dessert board is loaded with many ideas that can be added on top of your ice cream.

Your guest will love creating their own personal ice cream sundae topping with their favorite toppings.

Birthday celebrations have always been a big deal in our home. This year our youngest daughter turned 15. After I stopped questioning how in the world was that possible. I had to focus on what we could do to celebrate.

Last year because of lockdown she was unable to celebrate her birthday. Even though I wanted to make it as special as I could this year. It still needed to be low-key.

So she invited two of her best friends over to just hang out. Whereas normally she would invite a group of her friends over.

Since we had the guest list established I needed to get my creative wheels turning on what to serve. I'm all about charcuterie boards, whether it be a cheese board or a dessert charcuterie board like our S´mores Dessert Board.

Not only are they fun to build but are for great entertaining.

Thinking some type of dessert board was the way to go. To which an ice cream sundae bar came to mind.

However, this wouldn't get me out of making a cake for her. She was clear that she wanted A Texas sheet cake as her birthday cake with the family.

Toppings For An Ice Cream Sundae Bar

I wanted to make sure that this ice cream sundae bar was kind of over the top for these three teenagers. That meant lots of topping choices so they could create their version of the perfect sundae.

Ideas for ice cream sundae all on a board.

I started with my charcuterie board, this large board would be perfect to build the bar on. Wanting to make the board cute I added some little dishes that would hold a few toppings.

A larger dish for the ice cream where if needed ice could be added to help keep the ice cream from going soft.

Having the idea of what I would put everything on, as well as in, I headed to the store. In the aisle with the caramel sauce and hot fudge, I was able to find these waffle bowls.

After all, doesn't waffle cones make ice cream even better, so why not a bowl? Aso in this aisle I was able to find maraschino cherries, chocolate sprinkles, and these dried marshmallow bites.

Even though the images don't show it we did have chopped nuts from the baking section to add.

Next, I moved on to the candy aisle in the grocery store. Who doesn't like candy? My girl takes after me and loves candy and I knew there would be many options for the sundaes.

Gummy worms and Reese's pieces I felt would be great additions. You could also do M&M's, Skittles, mini peanut butter cups, or malts balls.

The options for candy are endless either as a whole or crushed up. I could see the malt balls crushed up and sprinkled on top for a nut-like crunch.

Reddi Wip is a dreamy fluff that makes a great place to nestle a maraschino cherry into. Another great choice would be marshmallow fluff.

Ice Cream Choices

Last but not least the star of that waffle bowl, ice cream. Having a choice of different ice creams makes building your own sundae even better.

Halo Top is a really delicious ice cream that is lower in calories. Not that we are counting calories at this dessert bar.

For that coffee lover or just because it's chocolate, the chocolate mocha chip from Halo Top is amazing. Talking about amazing is the Halo Top Sea Salt Caramel, yup I indulged a little with this one.

Next up I had to have a classic and the Halo Top Vanilla Bean did not disappoint.

If you are serving more guests than I did I would recommend doing either more ice cream flavors or bigger sizes of ice cream. Since it was only the three teenagers, and Ummm me, I bought pint size.

This was plenty for them and I believe my other daughter created her own sundae as well.

This ice cream sundae bar was a big hit with my daughter and her friends that were able to help celebrate her birthday. This dessert bar would also be great for any type of celebration or just because.
